1. What is Greenweb?

Greenweb is the solution to monitor and neutralize the carbon footprint produced by your website. It is a web platform that enables you to see exactly how much CO₂ your website produces and gives you the means to neutralize it or allows you to neutralize it in your own way.

2. Why neutralizing your website's carbon footprint?

Nowadays people stared to be more and more aware of the poor situation in which Mother Earth is and also aware of the multitude of ways in which they can help. We want to neutralize your website's carbon footprint because as the number of internet users grows rapidly, so does the number of websites and the number of page views per user, hence the carbon footprint will grow as well. This means that if we, as users, don't ACT NOW, the CO₂ emissions will have a devastating effect over our planet and equally over ourselves and the generations to be.

3. How is your carbon footprint calculated?

Having pertinent carbon-related data: emissions factors and the algorithms for using them, we engineered the process of calculating the CO₂ emissions generated per website usage, taking in consideration parameters, such as: location of each visitor, time spent on site, type of fossil fuels being burned in order to power the computer/laptop, the server where the website is hosted or the network devices that connects them.

Also known as Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) in the USA, are a tradable commodity proving that certain electricity is generated using renewable energy sources. Yes. 6. Can I get certified if I have a free domain/hosting?

Yes, you can. The certificates you acquire are not only for companies or NGO's, any website holder can get certified for being green on the web.

7. If I already have green hosting, am I not doing enough?

NO. It is important to understand that having a green host, as useful as it is, does not resolve all the problems. Your website generates CO₂ through the number of visitors or page views have per amount of time. Your green hosting does nothing to neutralize that offset of CO₂.

8. How relevant is the carbon footprint of a website?

The carbon footprint of websites is extremely relevant, as it has been discovered that the ICT produce the same amount of CO₂ like airplanes. 9. What if my website receives more than 5,000,000 visitors per month?

If you purchased a 1 year package this means that a certain amount of green certificates will be bought in your account every month. If your website exceeds the total number of page views faster than it should, then you will be able to upgrade your package that best fits your website's profile.

10. What if my website receives less than the package I subscribed for?

In this case your next subscription period will have a discount that equals the amount of «saved» page views. In other words, if after 1 year subscription instead of generating a total of 120,000 page views (10,000 page views per month) your website generated only 100,000 page views, when renewing your subscription for the next year you will have a discount of 2 months (20,000 page views).

11. How does the script work?

Once inserted in you website's platform the widget keeps an up-to-date analysis of your website carbon footprint. Also, what you need to know is that our script has a badge that will appear on your website, once the code is inserted. This badge has two main attributes:

It give any of your visitors the possibility to see that you take effective measures to neutralize your website's carbon offset
Through it we are keeping track of your website's carbon emissions

12. How can I integrate the script on my website?

In order to integrate the script, you simply need a Greenweb account, for which you can register here: http://www.greenweb.org/registration.htm. After you do that we will provide you with a code that you can insert anywhere you want in your website, as a simple widget.

13. Can I integrate the script without the badge?

No. The script we give to monitor your website's CO₂ emissions includes also the badge. Look at the badge as a diploma, as a certificate that gives you, as well as your visitors the opportunity to see what you are doing to neutralize your CO₂ footprint.

14. Is the script supported on standard Content Management Systems?

Yes, it is. You can use the script on all well-known web platforms such as: Drupal, WordPress, Joomla, Media Wiki, Liferay, TYPO3, Moodle, Dolphin, or any other.
